Offshore Wind Projects Quick Facts

 

Attentive Energy Two

 

Attentive Energy Two will supply up to 1,342 MW of electricity, power more than 650,000 homes, and generate $3.1 billion in economic activity state-wide. The windfarm will be located approximately 42 miles offshore from its nearest point in New Jersey. The project proposal was approved by the Board of Public Utilities in January, 2024.

 

Leading Light Wind 

 

The Board of Public Utilities approved the Leading Light wind farm proposal in January, 2024 Leading Light will supply up to 2,400 MW, power more than 1,000,000 homes and create up to $3 billion in economic benefits for New Jersey. Located over 40 miles offshore from the nearest coastal point, the wind farm is expected to undergo development from 2024 to 2027, construction from 2028 to 2032, and operation as early as 2031.

 

Atlantic Shores North

 

This is one of three lease sites owned by Atlantic Shores and located off the coast of New Jersey. This lease area is about 81,000 acres and will have 157 Wind turbines. This will create 2,500 MW which is enough to power more than 1.1 million homes in the state of New Jersey. 

 

Project Benefits

• 6.13 million tons GHG reduction annually for this project alone which is equivalent to removing 1.21 million cars from the road 

• This project will help the NJ economy throughout its project lifetime. It will contribute a total of $937.9 million in labor income and $1.3 billion in value added. 

 

Atlantic Shores South 

 

• New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) awarded Atlantic Shores Project 1 an Offshore Renewable Energy Credit (OREC) to deliver 1,510 megawatts (MW)

• Located 10-20 miles offshore 

• $1.9 billion in total economic benefits

  • 
Atlantic Shores Project 1 alone will contribute more than $1.9 billion in total economic benefits to the Garden State, with $848 million in guaranteed local direct investment.

 

• $160 million in hyperlocal investments across Atlantic City

  • 
Investments across Atlantic City include a brand-new Operations and Maintenance (O&M) facility with nearly 90 permanent on-site jobs guaranteed.

 

• Nearly 50,000 New Jersey jobs


  • Projects 1 and 2 will create 22,290 direct full-time equivalency jobs (FTEs), more than 11,810 indirect FTEs, and over 14,820 induced FTEs, including thousands of highly-skilled, family-sustaining union jobs in construction and operation.

 

• Enough clean energy to power more than 700,000 New Jersey homes

  • Making landfall at Atlantic City, Project 1 alone will generate enough clean energy to power nearly 20% of New Jersey households!

 

• 4 million ton reduction in greenhouse gas emissions


  • Atlantic Shores Project 1 will also reduce in-state net greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 4 million tons every year, the rough equivalent of taking more than 770,000 cars o the road.

 

• Nearly $200 million in public health benefits

  • As a direct result of decarbonizing New Jersey’s electric grid, there will be a significant uplift to air quality in overburdened communities (OBCs).

 

NJ Wind Port 

• The Port offers an unrivaled combination of:

  • Purpose-built marshaling space

  • Heavy-lift wharfs and component laydown areas

  • Open access to the Atlantic Ocean (free of vertical restrictions)

  • Short steaming distances to more than 50 percent of US offshore wind lease areas

  • Access to a highly skilled trades and technical workforce

  • Construction commenced in late 2021. To date, the project has exceeded over 200,000 work hours.

  • The New Jersey Wind Port is expected to support up to $500 million in new economic activity within the State and region each year

  • Longer term, the New Jersey Wind Port is expected to support up to 1,500 jobs

  • The Marshalling Port will cost between $300-400 million, with potential longer-term expansions currently at the concept stage

  • Port construction, which (commenced in late 2021) will create hundreds of additional union jobs

  • The New Jersey Wind Port is expected to support up to $500 million of new economic activity within the State and the region each year.
